A Trip to Rhine Falls,Switzerland

“We didn’t intend to visit The Rhine falls when we made all the plans For our much awaited Swiss adventure. At the tourist information center, we were informed about the gloomy weather at the Mount Titlis and we were given other options to visit instead. Bingo! our last minute plan to Europe’s largest waterfall- Rhine falls Switzerlnad.” 

Entering the Swiss territory:

Switzerland! my next stop on Europe trip. Excitement had no limits as we boarded our first night train of the journey- a night train from Amsterdam to Zurich! Clean compartments harry potter train- like passageways and new friends! My trip was getting better with every other experience. We booked 4  people compartment for the 12-hour night journey from Amsterdam to Zurich. I couldn’t feel a minute out of long hours as I was super tired after all the Amsterdam trotting.  Except for some random ticket checks in midnight and bag theft events in the nearby compartments, the journey was pretty smooth.  Be sure you lock the compartment every time- the thing that saved our stuff from being stolen 🙂 but little did we know that we were entering the damn rich country bearing a potential of anyhow leaking your pockets in a day. Losing your conscious over breathtaking alpine views and losing all the money simultaneously? Welcome to Switzerland!

We had 3 handful days to have a glimpse of swiss, hence visiting a tourist center and planning our time wisely was a clever move. At the tourist information center, we were informed about the gloomy weather at the Mount Titlis and we were given other options to visit instead. Bingo! last minute plan to Europe’s largest waterfall- Rheinfalls.

From Zurich to The Rhine Falls by Train:

You can find this amazing wonder in a gorgeous Swiss town called Schaffhausen, not far from Zurich and train takes you directly to the foot of this marvel. Both the train and the bus options are available to reach The Rhine falls from Zurich. We boarded our train for Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall, from Zurich station, a pleasant journey of 45-50 minutes. Views of a distant chalet backed up by enormous mountains and yellow flower patches every now and then lure your eyes continuously outside the window.

First time to The Rhine Falls Switzerland:

It’s an amazing moment when you catch a sight of this thunderous and dramatic Rhine falls just outside the train window (pick a right side seat on the train from Zurich 😉 The view of tonnes of gusting water paving a way through two enormous clifflike rocks, and as you step outside the train, there is this prominent roar of splashes making every other sound just fade away.

Boat trip to the center of Rhine falls:

Once we took a stroll around and then we decided to climb up the tempting rock sitting in the middle with the proud Swiss flag. Although climbing this nail island like rock seemed quite an adventure but believe me, reaching its base via motorboat gave me heebie-jeebies. Wait for the moment when a driver (sailor whatever you call it) parks the boat right where tonnes of water tumbles into the narrow gorge, and you feel mammoth thurst pushing your itty- bitty boat backward.

The climb up is very easy, we took our time to soak in the powerful force of nature, took a bunch of pictures and videos and enjoyed breathtaking views from the top. Check the last return boat timings before planning your time up there, otherwise, I will pray for you 🙂

What is to see around the Rhine falls Switzerland?

We explored the area around and came across a beautiful water mill towards the right side of the waterfall. There is a beautiful castle converted into the restaurant on the left side. The area is popular with tourists hence all the basic facilities like food, restrooms, and souvenir shops are available in the area. Here is the tourist map of entire Rhine falls area.

A day trip to Rhine falls was a spontaneous yet unmatchable experience. On our way back, My husband might have figured out the after visit zing in my eyes. I remember he told me that best was about to come, and it certainly did!

The best thing to do on any swiss trip is not to paint your imagination because some scenes are supremely beyond your senses that you might get an elation stroke!
